Sibusiso Mthembu

Sibusiso Mthembu is a Durban based Ceramic artist, potter, maker.

Sibu is based in the Inhlanzi Studio as artist in residence at the Phansi Museum, Durban, South Arica.

In his work Sibu explores his deep interest in nature and how humans coexist with their environment, recurring iconography include mammals, birds, and fish and can be seen in Sibu’s mythical creatures.

“Art is Freedom”

Sibu sees art as a means of freedom for him and his family, an alternative to a life of servitude and submission as many Black South Africans have been conditioned.
